Where is the love?

Apparently, there is no word for 'love' in Shanghainese. That just seems so bizarre. I'd always thought it was a universal human thing, but the closest thing to it in Shanghainese is saying "I like you" -- and I'm pretty sure that's just a normal 'like', not a like like. It kind of turns me off the idea of learning Shanghainese actually. On the other hand, languages like Marshallese have some lovely stuff, with the literal translation of hello (yokwe) being 'rainbow you' (according to my Marshallese friend). It's almost enough to make me feel a Care Bears moment coming on...
