Charlie
I have recently had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of a fellow who goes by the name of Charlie, and he's possibly the most British person I've ever met. He insists that it's only right and proper to speak the Queen's English with none of the this fancy-pants American vernacular, dontcha know. He's a real character -- a wizened old professor, who can captivate you even when you completely disagree with his opinions. He even goes so far as to launch tirades against the use of 'kids' instead of 'children'. I think I really made his day when we shook hands and I said something that previously I'd only said when I was taking the piss: "It was a pleasure to make your acquaintance". The kicker is that Charlie is in fact Chinese, though to listen to him speak you'd never expect it. He has the refined, yet archaic, air of an old Oxford don, though he really reminds me of that character from The Fast Show, the "I'm afraid I was very drunk at the time" guy. He's quite amazing, I never thought I'd be able to talk to such a man yet here I was with several others hanging on his every word. I'll try to post a picture next of us all next time.
