Snap Crackle Pop

Just saw a big religious festival thing at the local temple, no idea which religion actually. In China a lot of people have more than one religion anyway, may well have been both Buddhist and Daoist, or something else for all I know. Pretty impressive all in all, they had the people in the big demon/monster/whatever-the-hell-it-is costumes, a bollockload of firecrackers, and the looneys who walk through the little bonfires.

It was pretty interesting to see the firewalkers, some of them were in costume, carrying portable shrines, a couple were carrying a small richly carved that they were arguing over, and there was one priest who was seemingly drunk. It got a bit ludicrous though when a bloke in a wheelchair wheeled up and started running over the fires. I'm not sure if he was part of the act or just a random member of the audience :)

Sometimes it seems like I'm living in Iraq with all the bloody firecrackers. There were some looneys who had a chain of firecrackers underneath them which they then lit. I was close enough to be hit in the face by a few of them, might have been a flying gonad or two as well considering the force of the firecrackers :)
